Naturopathic Medicine

WHAT IS NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE?

Simply said: Naturopathic Medicine is medicine based on Life.  This is because it works based on the innate healing ability of the human being, and uses this philosophy to prevent and treat diseases.

Naturopathic Medicine views each patient as a whole, aiming at finding and removing the root cause of an individual’s disease.  Naturopathic Medicine uses a vast array of approaches, therapies and modalities, presenting a well-balanced mix of ancient knowledge and modern research findings, constantly evolving into an ever more complete healing system.  Naturopathic Medicine uses various forms of dietary modifications and therapies, nutritional supplements, hydrotherapy, homeopathy, herbal medicine, bodywork, amongst other things.

As part of ‘alternative’ or ‘holistic’ therapies, Naturopathic Medicine focuses primarily on preventive care, but also treats various degrees of illnesses.

HERBAL MEDICINE

Herbal or Botanical Medicine is a system of treatment that uses plant extracts and other preparations, which can be either taken internally or applied externally, to prevent and treat disease.

Botanical Medicine can be practiced from a variety of approaches, either western or oriental, and its effects can be very powerful.  Herbal medicines should always be recommended and managed by a trained professional. Herbal medicines are, in general, safer and less toxic than prescription medications.

All substances can have potential side-effects, but when used correctly, there could be little or even no side-effects and/or toxicity from the use of herbal medicine.

HOMEOPATHY

Homeopathy was developed by a German Physician called Samuel Hahnemann, in the early 19th Century.  It is the use of remedies made from very dilute substances, that help restore balance in the body and mind and thus reestablish health.  It is based on the principle “Similia Similibus Curantur“, meaning “Like Cures Like”.

We employ hundreds of different substances that are selected on a case-by-case basis. After we make extensive analysis of the patient’s specific complaints, habits, preferences and personality, we form a “Symptom Picture” that is then matched to a specific remedy, which the patient is to take according to appropriate dosing instructions.
