Grand Master Lim, Hyun-Su (also known as Im, Hyun-Soo) was born September 7, 1945 in Gue-Chang, Gyeongnam Province of Korea. As a young child he had a special interest in the martial arts. In middle school, he started training in Tang Soo Do.
After graduating from Gue-Chang high school, Grand Master Lim entered the Yeung-Nam University. While studying at the college, he could not erase his yearning towards traditional martial arts. While visiting Dojunim Choi, Yong-sul in 1965, he had his first meeting with Hapkido. Grand Master Lim felt a mysterious charm that made him decide to seriously walk the path of the martial artist. At first, Master Kim, Young-jae, one of Dojunim Choi’s pupils, taught him but he couldn’t stop his desire to becoming the best martial artist possible. He eventually revisited Dojunim Choi, and became his pupil, enduring a strict hardship of training.
Knowing Hapkido’s true values and meanings during that special training period, he opened the Jung Ki Kwan on October 24, 1974. Later, Dojunim Choi closed his dojang in 1976 and joined the Jung Ki Kwan, devoting his energy for the rest of his life. Grand Master Lim is one of the longest running students of the founder of Hapkido, Dojunim Choi, Yong-sul. He is also one of only three people alive today* to ever have received a ninth degree back belt from the founder himself, Choi Dojunim .
Grandmaster Lim is concidered the top swordman in Korea by the president of the International Association of Iaido, Komei Sekiguchi and is the founder of the live-blade style of Chung Suk Kuhapdo.
